WRITTEN DURING Rossini’s later years, this work displays all the ebullience and vivacity of its composer when he was a young man. This Mass, neither “petite” nor “solemn”, was described by Rossini himself as “a sin of my old age”. Replete with infectious melodies and rousing rhythms, it is a transgression for which the composer has surely found forgiveness!
