The 140-voice Grand Philharmonic Choir rehearses September through May on Monday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and presents four or five concerts during their season.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All applicants must be able to read music and have an understanding of rudimentary music theory.
  • Experience in choral singing is desirable.
  • Instrumental and vocal training is highly recommended but not mandatory.

THE AUDITION:

The audition will last approximately 20 minutes and be conducted by the Artistic Director, Howard Dyck.

The audition will include ...

  • vocalizing to determine range, quality, and colour of the voice
  • aural and theory skills — identifying chords, intervals, key signatures
  • the performance of a prepared audition piece
  • sight-singing
  • the completion of an application form

REPERTOIRE CRITERIA AND INSTRUCTIONS:

Repertoire Criteria

  • An aria from a standard oratorio or opera, OR an art song from the classical repertoire.

Instructions

  • Bring two copies of your audition piece.
  • The audition piece must be thoroughly rehearsed and sung at performance level.
  • DO NOT bring a pop song or contemporary church music selection.

  • You do not need to bring an accompanist.

NOTIFICATION:

Each applicant will be notified in writing regarding the results of the audition.
